I’m happy to report that simpler now has full Gmail + Google Calendar integration 🎉
That means you can plug your Gmail and/or Google Calendar into our AI and ask it questions about your emails and/or upcoming events, allow the AI to draft emails on your behalf, and more!

Just a heads-up: Google approved simpler for its Gmail and Google Calendar integration, but still requires us to undergo a third-party CASA Level 2 certification (which is a good thing — they want to make sure we can be counted on to be trustworthy guardians of any of your personal data that’s passing through).
This CASA Level 2 certification will take some time — presumably a couple of weeks.
Thank you all for your patience.

Looks (and works) great!
What is the AI token consumption for these composing tasks?
Martin Adams
Mario, excellent question.
If you select AI integration (i.e. giving AI contextual information about a specific email thread), that’s free to everyone (it uses a different type of AI token that’s quite affordable: https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/embeddings). AI tokens, however, will be incurred if you instruct the AI to draft you an email.
Let me get back to you on this. I’ll need to do some A/B testing (with and without email drafting).

Hi Mario, I tested using the following AI command:
Draft a friendly, concise email to Dan Millman, giving him a brief introduction to simpler.
(some background: Dan is a friend, and I have a few emails with him in my email history.)Gmail integration itself used
1916
tokens, based on included emails. The AI query itself, without Gmail integration used 795
tokens. We’re going to be focusing on reducing AI token use asap (https://roadmap.simplerlist.com/feature-requests/p/reduce-token-usage) and/or add the ability to add tokens to your account (https://roadmap.simplerlist.com/feature-requests/p/ability-to-buy-tokens).
Gmail integration token usage will be tracked separately, so you can keep an eye on token usage for just the Gmail integration as well.

Hello everyone!
Since you upvoted the Gmail Integration feature, I wanted to let you know that I was finally able to submit the latest changes to the Google Trust & Safety Team for their verification and (hopefully) final approval.
If everything goes well, we should have this feature approved in a day or two, along with the Google Calendar Sync feature request as well 🤞
In case of interest, here’s a quick demo I put together for the Google Trust & Safety Team. https://youtu.be/n5BGQoqUeYo
Best wishes,
Martin
ps: the demo I shared with you above is just the first step on the road towards a tight Gmail integration. Over time, simpler’s Gmail integration will become more and more seamless. Once I’ve marked this feature request as “complete”, I encourage you to create other feature requests about particular aspects of this Gmail integration that you want to see in the future.

One user shared the following:
“I would want an AI tool to automate my inbox like this:
- It creates a "for review" place that responds to emails for me and all I have to do is add in facts (like dates when I am available, or my thoughts on the questions asked) and send. This assumes the AI will eventually be able to "remember" who I am and learn from all my past emails / adjustments. Not just a LLM that is guessing (but thats still a good 1st start).
- if I don’t want to modify and send yet because I'm not ready, then creates a list for me that organizes what I am waiting to respond to in a easy to read list
- It filters out the crap (and puts them in a place where I can audit) and also buckets promos/newsletters/etc (gmail already does this, but it could be better/more personalized)
So then my workflow isn’t logging into gmail, but instead 1) checking to be sent folder 2) check my active working on list 3) occasionally audit the crap folder/review newsletters/promos.”

Looks like we’ll need to wait a few more days in order for Google to complete its verification process.
